The Old Town Hastings
The Old Town conservation area is a distinct & characterful destination mixing quirky shops with art galleries, timber-framed houses dating back as far as 1450 with a diverse range of bars & restaurants – all adjacent to the coast & the 660 acre Hastings Country Park. The UK’s largest beach fishing fleet, with their distinctive net huts on Rock-a-Nore, are a long-established tourist attraction – joined in 2011 by the Jerwood Gallery on the Stade. The country’s steepest funicular railway at East Hill links the Old Town to the Country Park – as well as providing spectacular views along the coast.
The annual Seafood & Wine Festival is but one of many events that help shape the Old Town’s Bohemian character.
